Recruitment is a busy time of year for sororities and interested students, and we know that several terms may be unfamiliar to you! Below are some frequently asked questions that can hopefully help make sense of the process and what to expect for those who are interested in seeking sorority membership.
What is recruitment? As a whole, recruitment consists of a series of events that take place in the January/ February months of the spring semester. This year, the spring 2019 recruitment period will take place from Thursday, January 31, 2019 to Sunday February 3, 2019. During these events, chapters meet with potential new members and offer membership to those that have values that align with those of their national organization. This mutual selection process is managed and overseen by the Panhellenic council at the University of Dayton and the Fraternity and Sorority Life staff in the Center for Student Involvement.
How do I apply? In order to participate in recruitment at the University of Dayton, students must register online by the deadline set forth by the Panhellenic Council. There is a $75.00 registration fee that all students registering for Panhellenic recruitment are required to pay, if registered by December 30, 2018. Individuals who register from December 31, 2018 to January 7, 2019 at 12:00 PM will be required to pay a $100.00 registration fee. More information about Panhellenic recruitment can be found here and you can find more general information about Greek life at Dayton here. The application for primary recruitment is now open and can be found here.
What is a legacy? A Sigma Kappa legacy is a woman whose sister, mother, grandmother or aunt is/was a Sigma Kappa! Being a legacy does not guarantee membership to a sorority, however we love to know when legacies are participating in recruitment and that legacy status may be disclosed on the recruitment application. If you would like to complete a recommendation for a potential new member please complete the online form here.
