Recruitment is a busy time of year for sororities and interested students, and we know that several terms may be unfamiliar to you! Below are some frequently asked questions that can hopefully help make sense of the process and what to expect for those who are interested in seeking sorority membership.
What is recruitment? As a whole, recruitment consists of a series of events that take place in the January and February months of the spring semester. During these events, chapters meet with potential new members and offer membership to those that have values that align with those of their national organization. This mutual selection process is managed and overseen by the Panhellenic council at the University of Dayton and the Fraternity and Sorority Life staff in the Center for Student Involvement.
How do I apply? In order to participate in recruitment at the University of Dayton, students must register online by the deadline set forth by the Panhellenic Council. The application deadline and dates of recruitment will be posted when they become available, typically in early December.
What is a legacy? A Sigma Kappa legacy is a woman whose sister, mother, grandmother or aunt is/was a Sigma Kappa! Being a legacy does not guarantee membership to a sorority, however we love to know when legacies are participating in recruitment and that legacy status may be disclosed on the recruitment application. If you would like to complete a recommendation for a potential new member please complete the online form here.
